HMH Standard Bench Vise Pedestal Version
HMH Standard Bench Vise Pedestal Version is a complete fly-tying vise supplied with a freestanding base and Omni jaws. On this version, a heavy sculpted iron pedestal replaces the table clamp, allowing the entire setup to be repositioned without attaching it to the edge of a bench. Its precision-machined stainless steel, tool steel and brass construction is designed for regular use at a permanent tying station. The extended jaw collet and open working area provide useful access around the hook, particularly when forming tails, adding ribbing or working on the underside of a fly.
The interchangeable Omni jaws accommodate hook sizes from 20 to 2/0, covering many common trout flies, streamers and moderately large salmon or saltwater patterns. A broad cam lever closes the jaws in a single movement, while their opening can be adjusted quickly to suit different wire diameters. For reliable holding, set the jaw opening for the specific hook before operating the locking lever. Seat the hook deeply enough to prevent movement, but avoid unnecessary pressure and leave adequate clearance around the bend and point. Hook shape and wire gauge can affect the most practical position within the stated range.
The head offers smooth 360° rotation with adjustable disc-drag resistance. This makes it easy to inspect the pattern from every side, expose its underside and keep the head in a chosen position while tying. Infinitely variable head-angle adjustment lets you orient the hook to suit the tying operation and bench height, rather than forcing your hands to work around the pedestal. A double-spring material clip, hex keys and a neoprene vise pouch are included. If most of your work falls below or above the Omni jaw range, the interchangeable system also allows the vise to be adapted later with a compatible HMH jaw.
