Dr Slick Eco 4 E Bobbin
Dr Slick Eco 4 E Bobbin is a complete, conventional bobbin holder for controlling tying thread while building flies. The tool is 4 inches long and combines a stainless-steel tube and arms with brass feet that support the spool. Its straightforward format provides practical working reach for routine tying and keeps thread control in the tier’s hand without a separate adjustment dial or disc-drag mechanism.
Two glass inserts form the thread path. They reduce direct contact between the thread and the metal edges of the tube, supporting smooth delivery as the bobbin is moved or rotated around the hook. The brass feet hold a compatible spool securely while allowing it to turn against the resistance created by the spring arms. Once the fit is set correctly, this simple arrangement helps maintain predictable tension from one wrap to the next.
Before tying, place the spool between the feet, feed the thread through the tube and check that the spool rotates evenly. If resistance is excessive, spread the arms very slightly; if the spool turns too freely, bring them carefully closer together. Make small, symmetrical changes and test the feed again whenever the spool is replaced. The Eco designation identifies Dr Slick’s uncomplicated economy tool line rather than a separate adjustable-tension system.
