FFGene Flashabou
FFGene Flashabou is soft, flat reflective flash in synthetic strands. The fibres are approximately 0.38 mm wide and ripple readily in water, so they remain mobile when a streamer is stripped or moved by current. Use the material mainly to brighten streamer wings, backs and sides; a single strand can also be wrapped along a fly body as a narrow reflective accent.
Construction and use
Its flat surface catches light and adds a distinct flicker to a fly profile. Flashabou can be used on its own or combined with synthetic hair, other fibres and natural materials. Cut a small bundle, position it with the required length extending beyond the tie-in point, and secure it with several firm thread wraps before trimming or layering.
- Streamer wings: place a few strands between fibre layers or over the top of a tapered wing.
- Side and back accents: shorter pieces form a lateral line or a reflective back on baitfish patterns.
- Movement: keep bundles sparse enough for the strands to separate and ripple freely in water.
- Small flies: use one or two fibres in a tail, wet-fly wing or body wrap when only a restrained flash is needed.
