FFGene Tungsten Olives
FFGene Tungsten Olives are elongated, olive-shaped tungsten components for building weighted flies. Their lengthwise form can shape a slimmer front section or body, while the concentrated mass helps produce a faster-sinking fly without enlarging its outline with a large round bead.
Construction and use
Select the component for the hook, shank length and intended fly geometry. During tying, secure it with even thread wraps so it does not rotate on the shank; the exact seating depends on the pattern construction. If FFGene Tungsten Olives are positioned near the hook eye, check passage around the eye and bend. Tungsten is a dense ballast material, so even a slim component can make a noticeable difference to sink rate.
- Shape: elongated olive form for streamlined profiles.
- Material: tungsten providing compact weight.
- Use: nymphs and other flies requiring a weighted body or front section.
- Tying: stabilise the component with thread on the shank and align it to the pattern.
- Selection: check the size against the shank, hook eye and intended silhouette.
