Greys Fin Cassette Fly Reel
The Greys FIN Cassette is a cassette fly-reel family for anglers who want to prepare several line set-ups and change between them without replacing the complete reel. Each reel is supplied with its working cassette, two spare cassettes and a storage pouch. This makes it practical to keep lines with different profiles or sink rates ready for changing conditions.
The aluminium frame is die-cast and machine finished, while the interchangeable cassettes are made from plastic. Its closed-frame layout reduces the risk of a fine line or leader passing into the gap between the spool and frame. This is useful with thin running lines and the fine leaders used for Euro-nymphing. The retrieve can also be converted for right- or left-hand operation.
Construction and series character
The cassette spool uses a large-arbour design with a broad core. It retrieves line quickly and helps reduce the tight coils that can develop while a line is stored. Changing the cassette provides a straightforward way to switch lines while keeping the same frame and drag mechanism on the rod. The supplied pouch holds the reel and its additional cassettes together between fishing sessions.
Line control is provided by a full disc drag incorporating Rulon friction components. The drag can be adjusted progressively, with smooth line release supporting control while playing a fish. The series therefore combines a conventional disc-drag mechanism with a cassette system designed to organise several prepared fly-line set-ups around one reel.
