Greys Fin Fly Reel
Greys Fin is a family of fly reels intended primarily for freshwater fishing. It combines straightforward operation with a full-frame construction, disc drag and large-arbor spool. The enclosed frame is particularly useful when fishing a fine line, mono running line or slender leader, as it helps prevent the material from slipping between the spool and reel body. This also makes the Fin a practical match for European nymphing and other methods that employ fine-diameter parts of the rig.
The aluminium structure is formed by die casting and subsequently refined through two machining operations that finish the surfaces and edges. This combines an efficient casting process with a cleaner machine-finished result. The reel has a functional, modern industrial profile and is supplied with a pouch for storage and transport between fishing sessions.
Construction and series character
The full-cage frame surrounds the spool and keeps a fine line or leader within the reel, including when the rig is being retrieved quickly or handled under light tension. Its large-arbor spool takes up more line with each turn, helping the angler recover slack efficiently. The broad core also reduces the tight coils that can develop when fly line remains stored on a smaller arbor for an extended period.
Resistance is controlled by a full disc drag using Rulon friction material. The system delivers smooth, progressively adjustable resistance through the external drag knob. As the drag assembly is unsealed, the character of the Fin series remains centred on freshwater use. Retrieve direction can be converted from left- to right-hand wind, allowing the reel to be arranged around the angler's preferred handling.
- Construction: die-cast aluminium refined by two machine-finishing operations
- Frame: full-cage design that helps retain fine line or leader within the reel
- Spool: large arbor for efficient line pick-up and less tightly coiled line
- Drag: unsealed full disc system using Rulon friction material
- Handling: convertible left- or right-hand retrieve and a reel pouch supplied
