Greys GR 80 Prowla Fly Rod
The Greys GR80 Prowla is the predator-focused member of the GR80 family. It was developed for streamer fishing with heavier fly lines and large flies, particularly when the tackle must perform in demanding conditions. Its intended scope includes pursuing large predatory fish in both fresh and salt water.
The fast action is designed to generate purposeful line speed and compact loops. This character supports the delivery of large flies and helps maintain an effective line path when casting in stronger winds. The powerful blank also retains the reserve needed to apply pressure to a substantial fish during the fight. GR80 Prowla is consequently a specialised tool for active streamer fishing, where efficient fly presentation and fish control are equally important.
Construction and series character
At the heart of the rod is a high-modulus carbon blank incorporating the Powerlux 1000 resin system. Greys introduced this technology into the GR80 generation to increase strength and impact resistance while retaining refined blank actions. In the Prowla series, the construction is used to produce the fast, powerful character required for heavier lines and large streamers.
The guide set comprises SIC-lined stripping guides and stainless-steel snake guides. The reel is secured in a custom anodised aluminium Greys reel seat with twin locking rings. AAA-grade cork is used for the grip, together with composite-cork sections intended for demanding use.
A steel-grey blank finish gives the family an understated, technical appearance. Alignment marks assist with accurate assembly before fishing. A rigid, internally partitioned rod tube is also supplied, keeping the rod components organised and protected during storage and transport.
