Greys Platinum X Float Fly Line
Greys Platinum X Float is a family of floating WF fly lines in weights 5 to 8, developed for use with modern fast-action rods. Its medium-length head and full-size, heavy profile are intended to load these rods positively while retaining control over fly presentation. It is suited to anglers who prefer a clear sense of the line working through the casting stroke, but who still want to regulate loop shape, turnover and the final delivery rather than relying on an excessively abrupt profile.
Profile and fishing use
Floating WF profile places the shaped casting mass towards the front of the line, helping the angler control how a fast blank loads and how energy travels towards the leader. The medium-length head provides a practical balance between beginning the cast readily and holding a stable loop with more line in the air. Although the design is deliberately full-size and heavy, its purpose is not simply to add force: the profile is also shaped to preserve control when presenting the fly.
- Floating WF family in weights 5, 6, 7 and 8.
- Tri-colour format with a medium-length head.
- Slick, low-memory coating and a low-diameter running line.
- 105 ft overall length, welded loops and a design developed in the United Kingdom.
The tri-colour format gives useful visual reference points as the line is lifted, carried and shot. Without depending on named colour zones, it allows the angler to recognise the position of the head in relation to the running line and to reproduce a chosen amount of overhang before the next cast. That is particularly useful when changing direction, recasting a fly or working with limited room, where consistent line management matters more than pursuing distance alone.
The slick, smooth coating is formulated with low memory, reducing the tendency for stored coils to persist and supporting clean travel through the rod rings. A low-diameter running line keeps the rear section relatively slim as it is released, while welded loops simplify line connections. Platinum X Float remains a conventional floating fly line rather than a sink-tip or multi-density model. It therefore fits fishing situations in which the main line needs to remain on the surface, giving the angler scope to manage contact, reposition the line and make controlled mends after delivery.
