H2O Shiner
H2O Shiner consists of loose reflective synthetic strands for streamer wings, tails and lateral accents. The fine fibres provide useful length without requiring a bulky bundle, while their sheen helps define the fly’s outline and suggest the glint of baitfish scales. Shiner can be used on its own or combined with quieter fibres when a more layered profile is required.
Construction and use
Select a small bundle, even the tips and secure it on the hook shank without packing the material too densely. Shiner suits slim wings, long tails, lateral lines and focused accents in larger streamers. Once tied in, the strands can be shortened or tapered to match the hook size and the intended movement of the fly.
- Baitfish wing: use the strands as the main material and layer them to establish a distinct profile.
- Side and back: add a narrow bundle as a reflective line that reinforces the streamer’s silhouette.
- Tail: tie in a modest portion behind the hook and leave the ends free to move.
- Preparation: divide the material into small bundles, secure them firmly with thread and trim only after checking the fly’s proportions.
