H2O Slinky Blend

H2O Slinky Blend is a synthetic fly-tying material made from combined fibres for building baitfish profiles. The integrated colour arrangement lets the tier create layered wings without separately blending several materials. The fibres retain their shaped profile in water, making them suitable for a slim streamer, an underlayer beneath other materials or a fuller silhouette after trimming.

Construction and use

Separate a modest portion, even the tips and tie it in stages rather than forming one overly dense bundle. Slinky Blend works for streamer wings, tails, backs and lateral accents on baitfish imitations. After securing it, comb the fibres, check the proportions and trim the outline with scissors; layered tie-in points make graduated lengths easier to achieve.

• Streamer wing: use the material on its own to retain its blended structure while controlling the amount of bulk.
• Underlayer: tie it beneath other fibres to establish a stable outline for a larger fly.
• Baitfish profile: layer shorter and longer portions, then taper the shape from the head toward the tail.
• Technique: secure small portions with firm thread wraps and leave enough space for the fibres to move in the water.
