Hardy Resonate Fly Reel
The Hardy Resonate is a fly reel developed for light-line freshwater fishing and delicate presentations. Its adjustable click-check mechanism provides the distinct audible response associated with a mechanical click-pawl reel, while allowing resistance to be matched to the line, tippet and fishing situation. Low start-up inertia supports smooth line release when the mechanism is set lightly.
The reel is precision-machined from aluminium bar stock. Metal load-bearing components are used within the click-check mechanism, complementing the straightforward mechanical character of the series. Resonate combines a modern, ventilated form with the direct operation traditionally associated with Hardy click reels.
Construction and series character
A full-cage frame surrounds the spool and closes the gap around its outer edge. This helps keep a fine line or leader within the reel instead of allowing it to work between the spool and frame. The arrangement is useful when retrieving loose line and when a particularly thin section of the fishing system is being stored on the reel.
The large-arbour spool has a broad core, taking up more line with each turn and storing it in wider coils. A push-off release allows the spool to be removed without a complicated locking procedure, making a prepared spare spool easier to fit and providing convenient access to the inside of the reel.
Resistance is adjusted with the external check control, retaining the immediate feel and audible feedback of a mechanical click system. Retrieve can be converted simply between left- and right-hand wind, allowing the reel to be configured for the angler's preferred winding hand without replacing its principal components.
