Hareline 3mm Fly Foam
Hareline 3mm Fly Foam is a 3 mm plain foam sheet for fuller terrestrial bodies, backs and other foam components. The greater thickness creates a more pronounced, dimensional profile than thin sheet material and provides more material for shaping larger details.
Construction and use
Cut a strip or shape from the sheet with scissors, a sharp knife, a punch or a matching cutter. On the hook, secure the foam with broad, even thread wraps; excessive tension can cut its edge. A thread base or foam-compatible adhesive may help stabilise a component before further tying. Thickness increases the profile and the amount of buoyant material, but it does not determine the behaviour of a finished fly by itself: the hook, eyes and weight of the remaining materials also matter.
- Form: smooth, cuttable foam sheet with an exact thickness of 3 mm.
- Preparation: cut strips, backs and pattern-specific shapes from the sheet.
- Uses: fuller terrestrial bodies, backs and larger foam components.
- Selection: choose the thickness according to the required profile and available space on the hook shank.
