Hareline Calf Tail
Hareline Calf Tail is calf-tail hair supplied as a tail-hair material. Its slightly wavy, durable fibres are used for wings on larger dry flies, salmon flies and other patterns that call for a controlled bundle of hair.
Construction and use
Select fibres of similar length, comb out loose underfur and align the tips in a hair stacker. Tie the bundle firmly at its base, working the thread from the tips toward the shank to reduce spinning. For a larger wing, build up several layers and check the width before forming the head or body.
