Hareline Foam Cylinder
Hareline Foam Cylinder is cylindrical foam stock for building smaller popper heads and other three-dimensional fly components. Each piece is approximately 1.5 inches, or about 4 cm, long, while the diameter is selected to match the intended profile and hook size. The material can also be prepared as an extended body or tapered body section.
Construction and use
Choose the diameter according to the required profile: a smaller size makes a more compact body, while a larger size provides more material for a fuller head. Cut, sand and shape the cylinder by hand, or use a matching popper-head cutter or jig. Secure the shaped component with controlled, broad thread wraps along the hook shank so the thread does not cut into the foam. When finishing the fly, allow for the combined weight of the hook, eyes and remaining dressing.
- Material form: cylindrical foam stock approximately 1.5 inches, or 4 cm, long.
- Diameter range: X-Small 1/4 inch (6 mm), Small 5/16 inch (8 mm), Medium 3/8 inch (9 mm), Large 7/16 inch (11 mm) and X-Large 1/2 inch (13 mm).

- Uses: popper heads, larger predator-fly heads, and cylindrical or extended bodies.
