Hareline Swiss Straw

Hareline Swiss Straw is a flat synthetic strip with a raffia-like form. It is used for wing cases, wings, bodies and other flat elements of a fly. Its profile creates a clean, defined surface without adding the bulk associated with round body materials.

Construction and use

Cut the strip to the required width, tie it in on the hook shank and carry it as a continuous body or shellback element. For wings, prepare a section to the desired shape before securing it with several thread wraps. Swiss Straw can also be marked with a pen when a custom pattern or shading is required. Varying the width and number of layers makes it suitable for small flies, nymphs, wet flies and streamers.
