Hareline Tapered Synthetic Quill
Hareline Tapered Synthetic Quill consists of tapered, lightly adhesive synthetic strips with contrasting light and dark edges. The strips are intended for slim, segmented bodies on nymphs and dry flies. Each sheet is approximately 10 × 5 cm and carries 10 strips.
Construction and use
Choose a strip width that suits the hook length and body diameter. Peel or cut one element from the sheet, leaving an end for tying in. Secure it at the rear of the underbody, then wind toward the eye in overlapping turns. Light tension helps the strip follow a tapered body; excessive tension can make it narrower. Tie off at the head and add a thin coat of varnish or resin if you want to protect the finished body.
