Hedron Microlon
Hedron Microlon is an ultra-light, strong, flat 70-denier nylon strand for streamer wings and other synthetic fly components. It does not mat into a dense mass, remains visible, and keeps moving in the water. Individual strands can be used on their own or combined with natural and synthetic fibres when building a controlled baitfish profile.
Construction and use
Select this material when the wing should stay light, mobile, and open rather than adding unnecessary bulk to the fly. Separate a small bundle before tying, align the tips, or leave them at varied lengths for a less uniform outline. The strands can be layered, blended with other fibres, and lightly tapered or trimmed after they have been secured to the hook shank.
- Streamer wings: Build light wings with a controlled amount of volume, adjusting the fibre length to the hook size.
- Backs and lateral accents: Tie in a narrow bundle along the back or side to define the silhouette of a baitfish pattern.
- Movement: Secure small, firm bundles; using too much material can restrict the strands’ free movement.
- Blending: Combine Hedron Microlon with natural hair or other synthetic fibres to create layered, tapered wings.
