HMH Standard Bench Vise C-Clamp Version
HMH Standard Bench Vise C-Clamp Version is a full-size fly-tying vise from the Standard series, configured for secure attachment to the edge of a bench with a C-clamp. This mounting arrangement leaves the worktop free of a pedestal and suits a fixed tying station where a rigid connection between vise and bench is important. The vise is precision-machined from stainless steel, tool steel and brass. It comes fitted with interchangeable, hardened Omni jaws designed for a broad hook range from 20 to 2/0. A large cam locking lever closes the jaws quickly once their opening has been adjusted to the diameter of the hook wire.
The head rotates smoothly through 360°, allowing the tier to inspect the far side of the fly, check proportions and bring tools to the materials without removing the hook. Disc-drag tension adjustment lets the rotation be set from light to more controlled movement according to the task. The head angle is infinitely adjustable, making it easier to place the hook shank at a comfortable working position in relation to the hands and bobbin holder. The extended jaw assembly provides generous working clearance around the hook, while the double-spring material clip keeps loose ends away from the section currently being tied.
Before tying, seat the C-clamp on a flat, rigid edge with its pressure surfaces making full contact. Tighten it only enough to prevent the column from moving, then set the head angle and rotational resistance before beginning detailed work. Place the hook in the stronger section of the jaws while keeping the eye and point accessible; after matching the jaw opening to the wire, close the cam lever without excessive force. The Omni jaws are a versatile choice for a varied selection of flies. HMH’s quick-change system also allows a separately selected jaw to be fitted later when work is concentrated on exceptionally small or large hooks. The set includes the double-spring material clip and a neoprene vise pouch.
