Metz Hen Saddles
Metz Hen Saddles are Metz hen saddle feathers marked as grade #2. They are longer and softer than typical rooster neck feathers, making them suitable for hackles on larger flies, streamers and Woolly Buggers. They also serve for wings, tails and feather fibres in wet flies and nymphs. The main size focus is around #12–#10, with some feathers also suited to #14 and #8.
Features and use
Soft barbs move in the water and create a lively, full profile. The dense feathers work well for Matuka flies, where the feather lies along the body to form a compact wing. Before tying, choose a section of suitable length, check the balance between barbs and stem, and match the number of wraps to the pattern.
