Metz Soft Hackle
Metz Soft Hackle consists of loose, soft feathers for fly tying. Their supple fibres can form soft streamer wings or be wrapped around the body as a mobile hackle on larger flies. The fibres move in the water during the retrieve, giving the fly a pulsing action and a lively outline. Individual feathers can be selected by shape, length and density to suit a particular pattern. The available colour selection makes it easy to match the material to the intended imitation. The loose format also allows the tier to control the amount of fibre used in a wing or wrapped hackle.
Construction and use
Separate the fibres before tying and inspect the feather shape and density. For a wing, choose a section with the required length; for a wrapped hackle, match the feather to the body size. Keep thread tension controlled during mounting so the fibres retain their soft, mobile character.
