Negnon Alpha Orionis Float Fly Line
Negnon Alpha Orionis Float is a floating, general-purpose fly line for presenting flies at short and medium range. It addresses situations in which manageable line outside the rod tip, a repeatable casting rhythm and accurate placement matter more than a highly specialised head. It can form the basis of a dry-fly, nymph or streamer set-up whenever the chosen method calls for the main fly line to remain on the surface.
At 30 m overall, Alpha Orionis Float provides a full working length for everyday river and stillwater fishing. Its braided core forms the line’s internal structure, while the smooth coating supports clean travel through the guides. This is useful when feeding running line, adjusting casting distance and retrieving line in preparation for the next presentation.
Profile and fishing use
The family includes both WF and DT profiles, allowing anglers to choose a handling style that suits their casting. In the WF version, the working mass is concentrated in the forward head, followed by a thinner running line. This layout helps the rod load with a relatively modest amount of line beyond the tip and allows the running line to feed through the guides once the cast is released. It complements the Alpha Orionis Float’s emphasis on practical short- and medium-range fishing.
The DT profile distributes mass more evenly and tapers towards both ends. It offers a traditional, measured feel, with direct control of the line and a composed casting rhythm. This geometry lends itself to repositioning line on the water and making roll casts, so it will appeal to anglers working mainly at restricted distances or in places where controlled management of the working line takes priority over shooting running line.
Head length varies with line weight from 9 to 10.5 m. Across the family, WF options span weights 2 to 9 and DT options span weights 2 to 6, with the precise choice linked to profile and colour. The palette comprises Orange, Yellow, Chartreuse, Ivory and Pale Green, providing several visual options for following the line on the water.
