Peak LIRS Series 3 Fly-Tying Vise with Pedestal Base
Peak Lirs #3 Up To .095 Wire W/Pedestal Base is a complete fly-tying vise supplied with a freestanding pedestal and fitted with the smallest head in PEAK’s LIRS family. It is designed for heavy-wire, long-shank hooks and for tying operations that place substantial load on the hook, including work with strong thread, tightly packed hair and bulky materials. The head accepts hook wire up to .095″ in diameter. Rather than squeezing the hook between two parallel jaw faces, the LIRS mechanism uses a drawbar and a shaped anvil: the hook point passes through the drawbar opening, and turning the hand knob draws the bend into a tapered groove.
The working parts of the retention mechanism — the anvil and drawbar — are made from hardened and tempered tool steel. This positive seating helps resist movement under high thread tension, making the vise well suited to densely packed heads, large streamers, predator flies, saltwater patterns and other dressings tied on substantial hooks. The head rotates to provide access to the sides and underside of the pattern, while its adjustable angle makes it possible to position the hook shank horizontally. Built on the PEAK Rotary Vise platform, the model also remains compatible with accessories intended for that series.
The supplied freestanding pedestal base is made from steel, finished with a durable white powder coating and fitted with non-marking feet. Its light surface provides a useful background for viewing materials, while the integrated recess keeps hooks and beads close at hand. The base accepts the vise’s 3/8″ riser shaft and has mounting points for an optional 3/8″ accessory shaft; the accessory shaft is not included. Before tying a batch, test the exact hook pattern you intend to use, since fit depends not only on wire diameter but also on bend shape and the distance from the barb to the beginning of the bend. Tighten the hand knob only until the hook is secure, as excessive force from this powerful mechanism can deform or break a hook.
