Peak Rotary Vise W/Pedestal Base
Peak Rotary Vise W/Pedestal Base is a complete fly-tying vise with a rotating head and freestanding base, intended for use on a flat worktop without clamping to its edge. The standard hardened and tempered tool-steel jaws hold hooks from 2/0 to #24, although wire diameter also matters at the larger end of the range. A positive-stop cam mechanism makes clamping pressure easier to repeat, while the adjustment nut sets the jaw opening for the hook before the lever is closed.
Rotation resistance is continuously adjustable with a screw that can be operated comfortably by right- or left-handed tiers. A lighter setting allows the fly to turn readily while materials are wound or proportions are checked; adding resistance helps the hook remain at the chosen working angle. The vise includes a bobbin cradle adjustable for both height and length, keeping the bobbin clear of the head during rotation. Its construction combines stainless steel, brass and aircraft aluminium, and the vise is made in the USA.
The 6 × 6 × 1/2 in steel pedestal base is finished with a white powder coating that provides a clear background for hooks, beads and small materials. Non-marking feet protect the work surface, while a rounded-edge pocket keeps loose components within reach. The base also has 2 mounting holes for optional accessory posts. For transport, the vise can be released by loosening the retaining screw, allowing the base to pack flat. When setting up, place the hook reasonably deep in the jaws while retaining access to the bend, then apply only enough pressure to prevent movement. For predominantly very small patterns, consider the working clearance behind the standard jaw tips as well as their ability to close on fine wire.
