Renzetti Standard Ruby Tip Bobbin is a complete, standard-format fly-tying bobbin holder designed for precise thread handling at the vise. Its defining feature is the ruby tip at the outlet of the tube. The smooth, wear-resistant surface reduces friction where the thread changes direction, supporting even delivery and helping to limit fraying when suitable tension is used. The Standard version has a 2-inch (50.8 mm) tube for conventional working reach; it is neither the extended Saltwater model nor the narrow-tube Midge version.
The traditional construction uses spring arms rather than a knob or adjustable disc-drag mechanism. The spool is held between tapered feet, with rotational resistance created by the pressure of the arms. This gives direct control of thread delivery without an additional adjustment system. Before tying, centre the spool between the feet and check that it turns smoothly; do not force a spool that does not fit correctly. Once the thread has been passed through the tube, confirm that the ruby outlet is clean and free from damage.
