Rio Elite Bonefish Fly Line
RIO Elite Bonefish is a floating fly line developed specifically for bonefish fishing in hot conditions. It combines a long head and rear taper with a mid-length front taper. This arrangement spreads casting energy through a longer working section: the loop develops smoothly and more line can be managed during an efficient cast for distance. At the front, the taper transfers energy into the leader, turns over typical bonefish flies and allows an easy presentation rather than an abrupt finish.
Profile and fishing use
The long head lets an angler carry more line in the air and adjust loop shape before delivery. The rear taper makes a gradual transition towards the running line, supporting smooth energy flow through the back of the head. The mid-length front taper retains enough energy to straighten the system, then releases it progressively for controlled turnover. This profile is intended for anglers who prefer a longer working section, a stable loop and deliberate presentation at distance. The additional working length also gives the caster room to organise the line before making the final delivery.
At its core is low-memory, low-stretch DirectCore. The line can be annealed by controlled stretching, helping it lie straight on the water afterwards. It also retains the stiffness required for efficient casting in high temperatures, when an overly soft line would be harder to manage. The SlickCast coating reduces friction as the line passes through the guides and supports surface durability. In practical terms, these properties assist smooth line release and repeatable loop formation while retaining the handling character of the long head.
- Floating family: WF6F, WF7F, WF8F and WF9F.
- Profile: long head and rear taper; mid-length front taper.
- Core strength: WF6F–WF7F — 30 lb (13.6 kg); WF8F–WF9F — 45 lb (20.4 kg).
- Markers: Bahamian — first colour change at 30 ft; other SureFire versions — at 20 ft.
The colour changes provide visible reference points for judging how much line is extended and for repeating a preferred set-up before the cast. They do not indicate a sinking tip, as every listed variant is floating. RIO Elite Bonefish therefore combines a profile designed for carrying a longer head with a core made to retain useful stiffness in hot conditions. It is aimed at anglers seeking smooth, efficient loops, controlled presentation of typical bonefish flies and clear line-length references without altering the line’s floating character.
