Rio Elite Flats Pro StealthTip Fly Line
RIO Elite Flats Pro Stealth TIP is a tropical saltwater fly line for fishing the flats, combining a floating main line with a clear intermediate-density tip. Its WF profile uses a mid-length head and a long rear taper. The design is aimed at anglers who want to form controlled loops, manage presentation and retain the line stiffness required for casting in hot conditions. It offers a distinct alternative to both an entirely floating line and a full intermediate or fully sinking configuration.
Profile and fishing use
The defining feature is the 6 ft clear intermediate tip. This short section works just below the surface while the main body of the line continues to float. Its clarity reduces the visibility of the fly line close to the fly, an advantage when a conspicuous terminal section could interfere with a careful presentation in shallow, clear water. Meanwhile, the floating body remains easy to follow and lift from the surface. The result is a shallow-water profile rather than a line intended to carry the fly progressively deeper through the water column.
- Profile: WF with a mid-length head and long rear taper.
- Density: floating body with a 6 ft clear intermediate tip.
- Family range: WF6F/I, WF7F/I, WF8F/I, WF9F/I and WF10F/I.
- Construction: DirectCore core and SlickCast coating.
The mid-length head provides a measured balance between loading the rod and controlling the line as the loop develops. Its weight distribution is intended to present the broad selection of flies associated with saltwater flats fishing. Behind the head, the long rear taper creates a gradual transition into the thinner running line. This supports smooth energy transfer and helps the caster maintain stable loops when carrying line in the air, changing the length of the cast or refining the final presentation. It is a versatile WF layout rather than the concentrated form of a separate shooting head.
DirectCore is RIO’s low-memory core, designed to be straightened by controlled stretching before fishing. It helps the line lie straight on the water while retaining the stiffness needed for use in high temperatures, where an overly soft line can become harder to manage. SlickCast forms the outer coating, providing a slick surface and supporting durability as the line passes through the rod rings. Together, these features suit flats anglers seeking a manageable tropical line with a discreet subsurface terminal section, while preserving the handling and visibility of a floating main line.
