Rio Elite Gold Fly Line
RIO Elite Gold is a floating, weight-forward fly line for versatile trout fishing on rivers and lakes. The family spans WF4F-WF8F. Its long head and extended rear taper are designed to keep loops stable at distance and retain control of more line beyond the rod tip. It suits anglers who want one line for controlled presentation and longer casts without changing to a narrowly specialised profile.
Profile and fishing use
The defining feature is its weight-forward taper. The long head keeps useful line mass airborne as a cast is lengthened, while the long rear taper makes a gradual transition into the running line. This supports clean loop formation, aerial corrections and mending once the line is on the water. At the front, a progressive taper transfers energy towards the leader and is specified for presenting flies from #2 to #22. It is not a short shooting-head profile: its advantages become clear when the caster is comfortable carrying and controlling a longer head.
- Type: floating WF fly line; not a sink-tip or multi-density design.
- Family range: WF4F-WF8F.
- Taper: long head, long rear taper and a front taper for flies from #2-#22.
- Technologies: low-stretch ConnectCore Plus and the friction-reducing SlickCast coating.
ConnectCore Plus is the low-stretch core. By reducing elongation, it gives a more immediate link between rod movement, line and fly. In fishing terms, that supports clearer feedback as the rod loads, more distinct take detection, quicker hook sets and controlled pressure while playing a fish. SlickCast is RIO's low-friction coating technology; it helps the line pass smoothly through the guides and shoot efficiently. Together, these features are intended to improve handling, sensitivity and durability without changing the line's fully floating profile.
On a river, the long head leaves useful line available for mending and correcting a drift after the cast has landed. On a lake, it helps preserve an orderly loop on longer casts and keeps line management predictable during presentation. The front taper accommodates larger flies as well as a more restrained delivery of small patterns, while retaining an all-round rather than narrowly specialised character. As the line is floating throughout, fishing depth is governed by leader and fly choice, not by a sinking section within the line.
