Rio Elite Predator Fly Line
RIO Elite Predator is a family of weight-forward fly lines designed to deliver large, heavy flies for trout, bass, pike and musky fishing. A short, powerful front taper and a concentration of weight towards the front of the head help initiate turnover and manage the air resistance of bulky streamers. The profile therefore suits anglers who need decisive rod loading and authority over a substantial fly, rather than the restrained presentation associated with a small dry fly.
Profile and fishing use
Across the family, line designations run from WF6 to WF11, while the set of density profiles varies by line class. The fully floating version is intended for working flies at the surface. The other three constructions combine a floating rear section with two successive front sections of increasing density. This gives a choice of fishing depth without changing the fundamental character of the short, front-loaded head.
- F – a fully floating line for presenting and retrieving flies at the surface.
- F/H/I – a floating rear followed by 10 ft of Hover and 10 ft of Intermediate at the front; intended for the upper 2-3 ft of the water column.
- F/I/S3 – a floating rear, 10 ft of Intermediate and 10 ft of medium-sinking S3 at the front for fishing through mid-water.
- F/S5/S7 – a floating rear, 10 ft of fast-sinking S5 and 10 ft of extra-fast-sinking S7 at the front when the fly needs to descend deeply and promptly.
The multi-density versions are not fully sinking lines: their rear section remains floating while the integrated sinking front determines the path of the fly. The graduated densities help reduce an abrupt hinge between the floating and sinking portions of the profile. This supports a more coherent streamer retrieve and lets the angler select a depth arrangement suited to the water and the chosen style of presentation.
Every profile is built on a low-stretch ConnectCore Plus core, supporting direct contact with a large fly and making changes in tension easier to detect during the retrieve. The SlickCast coating is intended to promote smooth travel through the rod rings and efficient line shooting. Combined with the short front taper, this construction remains focused on transferring energy to a heavier or more air-resistant pattern in a controlled manner, whether using the floating line or one of the multi-density versions with a sinking front.
