Rio Premier OutBound Short Fly Line
RIO Premier OutBound Short is a family of weight-forward fly lines designed to cast large and heavy flies, including weighted streamers. Its short, aggressive front taper helps carry a bulky pattern and turn the leader over with authority, while the powerful head loads the rod quickly and deeply. The profile is intended for anglers who want a direct transition from forming the loop to shooting line over greater distances.
Profile and fishing use
Concentrating the mass in a short head helps create the decisive loop required by flies with substantial weight or air resistance. This matters in streamer fishing, where the system must retain enough energy through the final stage of the cast. OutBound Short is not presented as a delicate line for restrained dry-fly delivery: its purpose is to control larger, heavier patterns and load the rod promptly before the line is released.
The family covers WF6 to WF10 and four density arrangements: F, F/H/I, I/S3/S5 and I/S5/S7. The F version is a floating fly line. The other designations identify multi-density heads whose successive sections work at different levels. This allows the line profile to be matched to fishing depth, current pace and the intended path of the fly, without treating the whole family as a single type of sinking line.
This density choice supports both freshwater and saltwater fishing. The floating version suits situations where control near the surface is important, while the multi-density arrangements help take a streamer deeper and maintain a more orderly head profile below the surface. Whichever density is selected, the short design remains focused on turning over a substantial fly and transferring energy efficiently through the cast.
- Profile: weight-forward, with a short aggressive front taper and powerful head.
- Family range: WF6–WF10; F, F/H/I, I/S3/S5 and I/S5/S7 arrangements.
- SlickCast: a smooth, durable coating that supports clean line shooting.
- Finishing details: DualTone, printed EasyID and welded loops at both ends.
DualTone marks the line’s effective loading point with a clear colour change, helping the angler judge how much head to carry before shooting. EasyID provides a printed reference for identifying the line, while the front and rear welded loops simplify connections to the leader and backing. Together, these are practical details for anglers casting substantial flies who require clear head control and straightforward rigging at the water.
