Spirit River Poly-Bear Fiber
Spirit River Poly-Bear Fiber is a loose synthetic fibre material for streamer wings, tails and layered baitfish profiles. It allows the tier to build long, softly moving silhouettes and control the volume by adding successive bundles. The fibres are useful for larger flies when length, easy shaping and the option to trim the finished profile are important.
Construction and use
Take or cut small portions and separate them with your fingers before tying them in, removing excess underfur-like bulk and creating an even layer. Secure each bundle with firm thread wraps, add further layers from the tail toward the head and check the width as you work. The tips may be evened, tapered or trimmed with scissors after they are secured. Keeping the material moderately sparse helps preserve softness and movement in the water.
- Streamer wings Build a long wing from several light layers rather than one heavy clump.
- Back and flanks Arrange the fibres symmetrically to form a clear baitfish profile and a smooth transition into the head.
- Tail sections Leave the tips free to move and set their length in proportion to the hook and the complete fly.
- Shaping Brush the material after tying, taper it with scissors and remove fibres extending beyond the intended outline.
