Spirit River UV2 Seal-X Dubbing
Spirit River UV2 Seal-X Dubbing is a substitute for natural seal fur, made for building fly bodies with a distinct fibrous character. It produces the familiar seal-dubbing style of texture, while the UV2 technology distinguishes this version within the range. The material is suited to tiers who want a body with visible fibres and an untidy, lively surface, yet still need to portion the dubbing accurately on the thread.
Construction and use
Use Seal-X for nymphs, wet flies, larvae and other patterns that benefit from a fuller, less uniform body. A thin application gives a more controlled profile; adding more material creates a broader thorax and more projecting fibres. For longer fibres and an even distribution, spin the dubbing in a loop rather than forcing a thick rope directly onto the thread. A light brush after wrapping opens the texture without stripping the body.
- Material type: A natural seal-fur substitute for fly-tying dubbing.
- Best for: Nymphs, wet flies, larvae and textured body patterns.
- Body effect: A fuller, irregular surface instead of a completely smooth body.
- Handling tip: Use a dubbing loop for longer fibres and brush the finished section lightly to open it.
