Stonfo FlyLab Base Vise
Stonfo FlyLab Base Vise is a complete pedestal-mounted fly-tying vise for dressing flies and streamers on hooks from #8 to #24. It is fitted with an interchangeable medium-size jaw made from hardened steel. The hook is secured by turning the rear knob, which opens and closes the jaw progressively and lets you match the clamping pressure to the wire diameter. This screw-operated mechanism gives controlled placement without the sudden pressure of a lever. Insert the hook several millimetres into the jaw rather than gripping it at the very tips; this provides a steadier hold and reduces the risk of damaging the jaw edges.
The head angle is infinitely adjustable and is secured with a screw using the supplied Allen key. The jaw carrier rotates through 360°, allowing the fly to be inspected from either side, the underside of the hook to be reached more easily, or the pattern to be inverted during finishing. A friction knob controls the rotary movement: it can be set for free rotation, an intermediate action with noticeable stops at 0° and 180°, or a full lock at the chosen position. For a stable setup, adjust and secure the head angle before tying, then set enough rotary resistance to prevent the fly from moving when thread pressure is applied.
The freestanding pedestal base places the vise on a flat work surface without fastening it to the edge of a table. Recesses in the base provide convenient temporary storage for hooks, beads and other small components. Its compact construction takes up little bench space and makes the vise easy to reposition when the tying area needs to be rearranged. The set includes a spring material clip for controlling thread or loose fibres, an Allen key and an instruction manual. The supplied medium jaw is a practical choice for regular work on common trout patterns and smaller streamers; if most of your hooks fall outside the #8–#24 range, select a separately available compatible jaw in a more suitable size.
