Thick Wing
Hareline Thick Wing is a cuttable wing sheet for roof-style wings on caddis, stonefly and hopper patterns. It allows the tier to prepare a matched pair with an outline and angle suited to the pattern. The package contains one piece.
Construction and use
Cut two identical wing elements, preferably with a paper template, and place them together to check symmetry. Set them evenly on either side of the thorax to form a roof over the fly body. Secure the pair with a few controlled thread wraps. Matching, careful alignment and trimming both wings together reduce the risk of the helicopter effect, which wide or asymmetrical wings can cause and which may twist the leader during casting. A wing burner can optionally be used for shaping when appropriate to the chosen pattern.
