Tiemco Solid Tying Vise Black
Tiemco Solid Tying Vise Black is the compact, regular Solid-series fly-tying vise in a black finish, mounted on a freestanding pedestal base. It combines a broad hook capacity with an uncluttered construction that leaves useful working space around the pattern. The jaws are designed for hooks from #32 to #4, allowing the same station to handle minute dry flies and nymphs as well as wet flies and streamers tied on larger hooks. Its compact proportions also leave more room on the bench for tools and materials and make the vise easier to move between tying locations.
The hook is secured by a mechanism operated with the lever behind the head. This arrangement makes hook changes straightforward and lets the tier apply clamping pressure appropriate to the wire diameter. The jaw housing can be tilted, so the hook position can be adjusted for the tying method, shank length and clearance required around the bend. The jaws also rotate, providing convenient access to the underside of the fly and making it easier to inspect proportions or apply finish from a chosen direction. The rotation is primarily a positioning and inspection function; the vise does not require the pattern to be tied using a true-rotary technique.
The column is fitted to a rectangular freestanding pedestal base, allowing the station to be positioned at a comfortable depth on the worktop without using the edge of the bench. Before tying, place the base on a clean, level surface, set the head angle and then secure the hook. The shank should sit straight in the working section of the jaws while the point and bend remain accessible. Close the lever using only the pressure needed for a stable hold, then check the seating with light hand pressure before applying firm thread tension. At either end of the stated hook range, careful placement becomes particularly important: a fine hook should not be over-compressed, while heavier wire should be inserted deeply enough to prevent the hook from turning during more forceful tying operations.
