Uni Mono Monofilament Thread
UNI-Mono is a fine, supple, translucent monofilament thread supplied on a 200-yard spool. It is not metallic tinsel or wire; its role is to provide a discreet, flexible material for controlled wraps. The translucent profile can define segmentation while allowing the underlying body materials to remain visually dominant. It conforms readily to the fly body, making it suitable when a pronounced coloured rib would be too intrusive.
Construction and use
Use UNI-Mono as ribbing on nymphs, wet flies and delicate dry flies, including patterns built with quill materials. The manufacturer also describes it as a translucent tying thread suitable for saltwater flies. Apply even tension and anchor the first turn securely before winding. On fine bodies, tighten progressively rather than pulling sharply, so the base material keeps its shape. Finish with several thread wraps and trim the excess close to the tie-in point.
