Uni Yarn
Uni Yarn is a classic fly-tying yarn for forming bodies. It is a standard, twisted, 2-strand acrylic yarn that builds a visible fibre texture quickly and efficiently. Use it for nymph and streamer bodies, or whenever a straightforward material is needed to cover the shank and create controlled bulk. The yarn is supplied on a spool rather than carded, making it convenient to dispense during tying and helping reduce unnecessary waste. Its familiar construction makes it a practical everyday choice for tiers who want a simple, dependable body material.
Construction and use
The twisted, 2-strand construction can be wrapped as a compact yarn or separated when a thinner layer is required. For a solid body, place the turns close together to avoid gaps; for extra bulk, leave a little more space between wraps. Before finishing, check that stray fibres have not been caught beneath the tie-off point, then trim the yarn cleanly. This keeps the body outline controlled without changing the characteristic yarn surface.
- Construction: Twisted acrylic yarn made from 2 strands.
- Best uses: Nymph and streamer bodies, plus general-purpose fly bodies.
- Surface: A recognisable, fibre-textured yarn finish.
- Handling: Keep it twisted for compact wraps or separate the strands for a thinner covering.
