Wapsi Bucktail Large

Wapsi Bucktail Large is a larger-format section of deer-tail hair for fuller streamer wings, tails and supporting layers. Its relatively long, stable fibres form distinct bundles and flare less under thread than hollow deer hair, helping the tier control the outline of a larger fly.

Construction and use

Select a bundle of suitable length, strip the underfur from the tie-in area and align the tips. On larger flies, secure the hair in layers while controlling the bulk with each thread wrap. It can be used for streamers, pike flies and saltwater patterns; trim or select the fibres to match the hook and intended profile.
