Wapsi Bucktail Pieces
Wapsi Bucktail Pieces consists of smaller sections of deer-tail hair for streamer and saltwater wings, tails and shorter layered elements. The piece format makes it easier to select a bundle for a particular hook and to work with a limited amount of material at the tying desk.
Construction and use
Separate the guard hair from the underfur, remove loose fibres and select a bundle that suits the fly length. Align the tips in a hair stacker, then secure the butt section to the shank with progressively tightened thread wraps. Add further small bundles when more volume is required, keeping the wing or tail balanced.
