Construction and use

Choose the ball in relation to the hook size and the intended fly profile. Place it on the shank, secure it with a few broad thread wraps, and then add the remaining body materials. For an egg pattern, lock the ball in place with short securing wraps in front and behind it. For a segmented body, arrange several balls in line and separate them with thread wraps or a fine rib. Use moderate thread pressure so the soft material keeps its shape while the finished fly remains neatly proportioned.
