Wapsi Chew Balls 4.0 mm
Wapsi Chew Balls 4.0 mm are ready-made soft balls with a nominal 4.0 mm diameter. They are intended for egg patterns and can also form pronounced rounded sections in segmented nymph bodies. Because each element is ready to tie in, a body can be built without cutting sheet material. The 4.0 mm size gives a larger profile than the smaller Chew Balls and suits flies with a fuller body.
Construction and use
Match the ball to the hook, the underbody width, and the amount of shank it should occupy. Tie it in with broad thread wraps, working from the centre toward the edges to keep the element seated. One ball can be secured as the main egg-pattern feature; several arranged along the shank create a compact segmented body. Add thread divisions or a fine rib when you want clearer separation between sections. Keep thread pressure moderate so the soft ball is held securely without being flattened.
