Wapsi Crawdub
Wapsi Crawdub combines long, soft natural hairs with a sparkly synthetic binder. Its loose, fur-like texture is made for substantial bodies rather than slim, tightly packed forms. Once the surface is picked out, the long fibres produce a deliberately shaggy outline and add movement to the finished fly. The texture is reminiscent of seal-style dubbing, while remaining suited to larger patterns.
Construction and use
Use Crawdub for the bodies of large nymphs, streamers and other flies that need a broad, lively profile. It can be spun onto the thread to form a full body, then opened up with a dubbing brush or needle. Build the shape in small additions instead of forcing one large wad onto the thread; this gives better control over both taper and silhouette.
- Fibre structure: long, soft natural hairs combined with a sparkly synthetic binder.
- Body effect: full and fur-like, with fibres that can be teased into a shaggy finish.
- Best suited to: larger nymphs, streamers and other patterns needing a generous body.
- Practical tip: pick out the surface after dubbing, concentrating on the profile rather than pulling every fibre free.
