Wapsi Deer Hair Short/Fine

Wapsi Deer Hair Short/Fine is a selected patch of short, fine deer hair. It is intended for smaller flies, where the shorter fibres help form compact wings, bodies and heads. Suitable patterns include compara duns, hoppers, muddlers, humpies and crickets.

Construction and use

Comb out the underfur and remove fibres that extend beyond the selected bundle. Level the tips in a hair stacker and secure the hair with thin, progressively tightened thread wraps. For a head, allow a controlled flare, then clip the tied fibres to the required compact profile.
