Wapsi Kiptail
Wapsi Kiptail is calf-tail hair processed to remove excess dye and natural oils, with colour carried evenly to the roots. It is used for wings, tails and supporting bundles when the pattern calls for an orderly, stable hair section that can be secured cleanly on the hook.
Construction and use
Select fibres of suitable length and separate them from the shorter underfur. Align the tips in a hair stacker, then tie in the butt section with controlled wraps, increasing thread pressure gradually. Kiptail can be used in single wings, tails or small bundles added to a fly structure where a compact hair element is required.
