Wapsi Loco Foam
Wapsi Loco Foam is a 2 mm foam sheet with a metallic or pearlescent coating on one face. Cut it into bodies, backs or layered shapes for terrestrial fly patterns, deliberately positioning the coated face on the outside or inside of the construction. The one-sided finish lets the tier control where the metallic or pearlescent accent appears.
Construction and use
Trace the required shape and cut it with sharp scissors, a knife, a matching cutter or a punch. The 2 mm thickness provides a defined profile and a particular amount of buoyant material, but the finished fly is also affected by the hook, eyes and other dressing. Secure the foam with broad thread wraps so the thread does not cut it; a thin thread base or compatible adhesive may stabilise the attachment when the pattern calls for it. Check the orientation of the coated face before closing the body.
