Wapsi Mirage Sheets

Wapsi Mirage Sheets is a crinkled reflective film sheet for cutting custom wings, wing cases and body sections for flies. Its folded surface breaks up the reflection and gives the material a pearl or opalescent flash, while the cut-to-shape format lets the tier match each piece to the proportions of a particular pattern.

Construction and use

Mark the required outline and cut the sheet with sharp scissors. Small pieces can be tied in as wings, tails or accents, while a larger section can be laid over the top of a formed body and secured with thread. When making a wing case, align the edges before tying and apply only enough tension to keep the material close to the underbody without flattening the crinkle. Finish the cut edge with neat thread wraps or a thin coat of varnish where appropriate.
