Wapsi Moose Body Hair

Wapsi Moose Body is a hair patch containing long, stiff moose body hair, intended mainly for tails on larger dry flies. The hair can also be used for streamer tails, legs, and segmented body details when a noticeably rigid fibre is required.

Construction and use

Select bundles of similar length from the patch, remove the underfur, and align the tips before tying them in. Secure a small bundle with a few loose thread wraps first, then tighten the thread while keeping the fibres together. On a dry-fly tail, check the length and position carefully; for segmented details, tie down the material at regular points to form even sections.

• Material: long, stiff hair from the moose body.
• Form: hair patch for selecting individual bundles.
• Tails: for larger dry flies and streamers.
• Additional use: legs and rigid segmented-body details.
