Wapsi Mustad Snap Hooks
Wapsi Mustad Snap Hooks are compact connectors designed for changing a fly without cutting it off and tying a fresh knot each time. They are particularly useful when working through different patterns, sizes or colours during a session. Each packet contains 25 snap hooks.
Tie the connector securely to the end of the tippet, place the fly’s hook eye in the snap and close it fully before casting. This arrangement makes repeated fly changes quicker and reduces the gradual shortening of the leader caused by cutting and retying. Check the closure whenever a new fly is fitted and after contact with obstacles.
When using a snap hook, consider the size of the hook eye, the proportions of the fly and the presentation required. Any additional metal at the connection can influence the balance or movement of very small and lightly dressed patterns, so it is worth checking that the selected fly can move freely once attached.
