Wapsi Scud Back 1/8 in
Wapsi Scud Back 1/8 in is a flexible, translucent flat strip with a nominal width of 1/8 inch, intended for shellbacks and wing cases on nymphs. It can also be carried around the body as a continuous cover or used to build a segmented body. Because the strip is translucent, the thread and underbody remain part of the finished appearance.
Construction and use
Tie the strip in at the rear of the body, establish an even underbody, then stretch the Scud Back forward and secure it behind the eye. Tension narrows and visually thins the strip, so adjust it while making each turn. A rib can be added in the opposite direction to divide the shell; touching turns can instead create a compact segmented body. Cut the remaining end on an angle and lock it down with several thread wraps.
- Form: flexible, flat and translucent strip.
- Width: nominally 1/8 inch.
- Uses: shellbacks for nymphs, scuds, shrimps and related patterns.
- Method: tie in at the rear, stretch over the body and secure at the front.
