Wapsi Sparkle Yarn
Wapsi Sparkle Yarn is a continuous fly-tying yarn with a reflective finish for building bodies and adding sparkle to selected fly components. It can be used as a single material for a thorax or body, or divided, twisted and laid according to the construction of the pattern. Its established uses include caddis pupa patterns and crab flies.
Construction and use
Tie in the yarn with thread on the hook shank, then wrap it in even turns or lay it along the shank when a flatter layer is required. The strand may be split, twisted with the tying thread or placed in a dubbing loop when the pattern calls for a less regular surface. Maintain controlled tension so the yarn is not stretched and the intended profile remains stable. Sparkle Yarn builds caddis pupa bodies, crab-fly segments and other streamer or attractor bodies where a changing reflection is part of the visual structure. Trim the waste cleanly and cover the tie-in before finishing.
- Form: continuous yarn for laying or winding.
- Finish: reflective, adding visible sparkle to the pattern.
- Handling: can be split, twisted or used in a dubbing loop.
- Uses: caddis pupae, crab flies and streamer bodies.
