Wapsi Chew Balls 3.0 mm
Wapsi Chew Balls 3.0 mm are ready-made soft balls with a nominal 3.0 mm diameter. They need no cutting or shaping: tie one in as an egg-pattern element, or use several to build a compact segmented nymph body. Their round form creates a defined body section on the hook, while this small size suits compact flies and smaller hook proportions.
Construction and use
Choose the ball in relation to the hook size and the intended fly profile. Place it on the shank, secure it with a few broad thread wraps, and then add the remaining body materials. For an egg pattern, lock the ball in place with short securing wraps in front and behind it. For a segmented body, arrange several balls in line and separate them with thread wraps or a fine rib. Use moderate thread pressure so the soft material keeps its shape while the finished fly remains neatly proportioned.
